Mishnas Olam was founded by Rabbi B.D. Silver shlita, a veteran student of the Mir Yeshiva. Over the years, he’d become aware of the dilemma many mourners faced as they sought to complete a siyum Mishnayos for their loved ones and realized they were unable to. At the same time, Rav Silver was personally aware of the great financial need of so many avreichim. With the creation of Mishnas Olam, he was able to address both of these issues – with the added benefit of increasing Torah learning in the world by pushing these avreichim to extend their own learning horizons.
A decade-long chavrusa of Rabbi Carlebach, shlita (a member of the Mir’s hanhalah), Rabbi Silver is an accomplished talmid chacham who delivers an early morning Daf Yomi lecture and heads an evening Daf Yomi Kollel in Yerushalayim. He is one of the heads of the Shas Chaburah learning program, a brilliant program that encourages students to study and retain large amounts of material by following a methodical system of review. Rabbi Silver, a prominent personality in his own community, comes from a family of Torah scholars: one brother, Rabbi Yitzchok Silver, is the author of several Torah books, including the Code of Jewish Conduct; another brother, Rabbi Shimon Silver, is the rav of the Young Israel of Greater Pittsburgh and the author of the weekly internet publication Halochoscope.
The avreichim of Mishnas Olam are a select group of prominent Torah scholars, hand-picked by Rabbi Silver. These accomplished scholars dedicate themselves day and night to their studies, closely supervised by Rabbi Silver, who ensures that the entire Shas is completed by the sponsor’s selected date.
